This week's entertainment releases: Twilight and Lord of the Rings Lego

There are a couple of big stories going on in entertainment this week.

The biggest – obviously – in the release of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’-- which hits theaters for 10 p.m. showings Thursday and then is in wide release on Friday.

Teenage girls everywhere are lining up for the movie. Of course, since you can now buy tickets online that merely makes them a little pathetic more than anything else. If there’s no necessity behind the action, then why are you doing it again? Oh, yeah, for attention.

I’m sure viewers will be able to expect the same bland acting, stilted dialogue and lack of spark in this film that the other four delivered. Why would they break from a winning formula at this point?

All I can say about the release of this film is that I’m thankful it’s the last one. The good news for movie fans, though, is that the universally loved ‘Lincoln’ is also in theaters – so adults have something to watch, too – and ‘The Hobbit’ debuts in a month.

‘Twilight’ will hit theaters hard and then be gone quick.

DVD
There’s three interesting movie titles that debut on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. The most anticipated is Disney’s ‘Brave.’

I think this movie got a bad rap this summer. It’s not going to be remembered forever like ‘Toy Story,’ but it’s much better than some of Disney’s other titles. The heroine in this one sends the exact opposite message that Bella Swan in ‘Twilight’ does. She’s strong, capable and doesn’t need a man to take care of her.

Speaking of getting your self-worth through men, ‘Savages’ also lands Tuesday. The movie was expected to do better critically and at the box office.

A lot of people point to the fact that the two male characters in the film “share” a girlfriend as the reason people didn’t flock to theaters. Personally, I think it’s Blake Lively. She’s just not an engaging actress.

Finally, what should be a winning combination in Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill come to DVD in what should have been a comedy winner called ‘The Watch.’ Instead, this comedy dud left theaters as quickly as it came. Stiller and Vaughn aren’t the golden boys they used to be and Hill is really hit or miss.

As far as television sets go, there are really only two of interest. The first is the SyFy show ‘Lost Girl’ which comes out with its second season.

The other is the always hilarious ‘Duck Dynasty’ – which has all of its first season episodes available for $9.99 on Amazon.

Video Games
My true interest this week is obvious. Yes, that’s right, ‘Lord of the Rings Lego’ finally hits. I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about it.

That’s not the only game available, though. There’s also Madden NFL 13 for sports enthusiasts and ‘Ben 10 Omniverse’ – which largely appeals to comic book fans.

Yeah, ‘Lego Lord of the Rings’ is clearly the best offering out there this week – and I’m not saying that because I’m biased or anything. I think Lego Gollum is going to be a viral sensation before this is all said and done.

Music
The biggest selection this week goes to the music genre - -where there are a number of new selections to choose from.

The first is Christina Aguilera’s ‘Lotus.’ The album features 17 new songs – and I’ll be interested if she manages to regain her relevancy. She has the best voice of that whole age group – but her off stage shenanigans (and the aging of her fanbase) have really made her forgettable in recent years.

Green Day debuts ‘Dos!’ – their second album this fall. It has 13 new songs – and will be followed up by ‘Tre’ next month. Never let it be said that Green Day is a bunch of under achievers.

One Direction (which I always confuse with One Republic) debuts ‘Take Me Home,’ which features 13 songs.

For those that drift to more old school music, Soundgarden has ‘King Animal, ‘ which has 16 songs and for those that really like it old school, The Rolling Stones debut ‘Grrr!’ – which has a great title and 18 songs. The problem is, the Stones haven’t been truly relevant in years.

What do you think? What are you looking forward to the most this week?
