I think Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan should be locked up
in a house and filmed 24-7.
Not only would that be a compelling psych experiment – but it
would be the biggest train wreck of a reality show to hit the airwaves. Ever.
For those that haven’t heard, former Nickelodeon star Bynes
has had several run-ins with the police in recent months (one literally – as she
clipped a cop car while allegedly drunk driving months ago). Since then she’s
had a couple hit-and-runs, an incident of driving without a license and several
disturbing instances of being caught wandering around Los Angeles talking to
herself.
Her management crew has dropped her – and reportedly her
family is having no luck helping her. Well, that's what TMZ is reporting anyway.
And Bynes – who was largely considered a well-adjusted child
star for years – is now in that realm where she’s only famous for being
infamous.
While Bynes was never going to win an Oscar – her ‘What a
Girl Wants’ movie is a guilty pleasure and I genuinely enjoyed her role in ‘Easy
A.’ It’s too bad that she’s fallen so far – and so quickly. There’s clearly
something going on with her.
Another former child star, Lohan, decided to get involved in
the situation by tweeting that Bynes has no repercussions for her actions.
If I were Lohan, I would keep my mouth shut. She tweeted
that she had to do jail time for her misdeeds – but I would wager much of the
country doesn’t think she did enough jail time given the fact that she was
given chance after chance and continued to mess up.
Not long after sending the obnoxious tweet, word leaked that
Lohan was being investigated for allegedly hitting someone in the parking lot
of a bar and taking off. This is on the heels of Lohan being investigated for
theft from a friend’s house last month.
Lohan clearly shouldn’t be throwing stones.
Bynes responded by saying Lohan’s latest woes are karma.
Here’s a thought girls – stop tweeting at each other and
start fixing your lives.
I wish I could say the actions of Lohan and Bynes surprised
me – but they don’t. I do feel a little sorry for Bynes. I mean, she’s clearly
going through some sort of mental break and someone needs to step in and help
her. Still, she’s doing herself no favors – especially when she does weird
stuff like tweeting President Obama to have the cop that arrested her for drunk
driving fired.
Lohan and Bynes are just the latest in a long line of stars
behaving badly – and getting way too many breaks along the line as they go. A little tough love might be called for here.
Perhaps they should look at former stars like Drew Barrymore
and Robert Downey Jr. They managed to fix their tarnished images -- but it took a lot of hard work.
I’m sure they would rather go that route than the one taken
by Corey Feldman, Corey Haim and Edward Furlong. None of those guys ever
managed to reclaim the glory they once held.
Bynes is never going to be a high quality actress – but she
has great comedic timing and could easily anchor a sitcom if she gets her act
together.
Lohan was once a great child star – but her last good role
was ‘Mean Girls.’ She certainly can’t ride that wave any longer.
When ‘Mean Girls’ hit the screens – Lohan was considered the
quality actress in the film. Now, her co-stars Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams have
totally eclipsed her.
There’s a lesson in there for Lohan. The problem is, she
never chooses to learn her lessons.
Of course, it doesn't help that Lohan's own mother Dina is making erratic appearances on 'Dr. Phil' where she appears to be drunk herself. What a great role model.
What do you think? Do you think Hollywood stars get treated
differently than “normal” people?
